| | | | Review Title: Emergency Service | | | | | | Reviewer: Anonymous | | | | Review Date: 7/19/05 | | | | | | | Rate This Apartment | | | | | | | Well, Cahaba Lakes is only going for looks, that part is a fact. I have been looking for new apartments today going by multiple areas in search of a better place to live. Along with the previous post that was writen on here, I too have a problem with my A/C. It started about 3 months ago with a small water leak. I reported the leak when it started, continually making phonecalls to them telling them about it, and have been emptying out pots every 8 hours of the day. Otherwise, the water would fall to the floor and get everywhere within the apt. as it has done before. It wasn't until today that the unit completely stopped working; blowing out hot air, heating up the apt to 91 degrees I assume (the thermostat needle was burried at the top). I did not return home from my apartment search until after the office was closed (4:30 pm) only to find that they're obviously no longer taking "emergency" maintenance calls as they are still advertising to the unsuspecting public. As I sit here in hot humid air only being shifted by the partially working ceiling fan in the living area, I have called the office numerous times by two seperate numbers only to get a brief busy signal after 15 rings, then having the call disconnected.Simply by doing the searching that I've done to this point, Cahaba Lakes clearly has a bad name in B'ham. I say this because of experience during the 4 years of living here, as well as nearly all complexes I visited knew of my street name when I wrote it on the visitors cards. They would look at me and say "I see why you're wanting to move" and laugh then they would say "say no more, we understand your problem." They would then point out the NEW utilities they have either installed or apts have close access to. Since I'm on a rampage right now, I'll go on about the other problems in this small little room by itself. They expect me to pay $546 a month for this place!? First of all, it's 700 sq. ft. is not as advertised. It has 494 sq ft. professionally measured. Working from top to bottom... The air ducts are cooling down the ceiling when it does work, no wonder raccoons like it so much up there. Raccoons! There are multiple problems with them in the walls and ceilings. The fan has 1 speed that works without blowing the whole place up, there is damage in the walls from the recent renovation efforts, including rusty nails sticking out, drywall chiped or broken in many different places. Pipe problems in the utility closet, and the A/C in the utility closet isn't working as well. The disposal under the sink has locked up and despite efforts of having it taken care of, noone has attempted to take a look at it, the washing machine... a problem that was documented with me present when my last and final lease was signed is still not taken care of, it doesn't spin at all simply because it needs a new belt on it. The dryer has been blowing hot air into my apartment because the renovation crew did not connect the air tube when they put a vent on to match the siding. Not to mention, people living in houses pay an electric bill that is less than half of mine ($107 with just the bare utilities running and no lights during the day). Then there's the universal problem of pests not including raccoons. They have tried to eliminate this problem by taking valet trash pickup away. Roaches centipedes on steroids and ants have become the dominant species around here. Roaches get their food from somewhere then crawl into the middle of my kitchen floor and decide to flip over and rest on a full stomach waiting for me to walk in and step on them in the mornings. Centipedes on steroids... I've never seen anything like these creatures! They look hairy and occasionally there will be one walking along the walls or on the ceiling with the intent of seemingly biting something. Ants never seem to find a stopping place in here. They just like to make trails that seem convenient to them going right through the middle of the floor to their final destination. If you spray for them, they just go around where you've sprayed as if they're just mocking me!I think this sums up most of the problems. Needless to say, I expect to flee from this hell as soon as my lease is up. Do yourselves a favor and don't go through the torture willingly, make sure your arm is twisted about 380 degrees backwards with U bolts holding your legs in place before moving in here. It's about the equivalent to what you'll put up with when you're here. | | | | |
