| Recent Review: | | I've rented through Beal for 3 years now.The first year was great. My building was maintained, no lights were ever burned out, and every issue I had was dealt with in a timely manner. After the 1st year, the lazy maintenance people were changed sometimes multiple times monthly. The property was poorly maintained, lights constantly out, washing machines broken, and dumpsters rarely emptied. This past winter I called numerous times about my apartment being too cold.I slept with sweaters on the most of the season. My stove had its knobs falling off and the pilot constantly going out. They would not replace my stove which was over 20 years old. These are just a few issues. The broken gate, basement sewage, filthy stairwells, and broken electrical outlets are a few more.Bottomline, Beal means well, but when dealing with a management company of this size, it's no surprise that the customer service was lacking. |

| Recent Review: | | I hate my apartment, its a little bitty two bedroom, and my children has to share the same space, they even hate living here. the kitchen is ulgy and it hasn't been remodeled in ages. the front room is so small and the bathroom is so ran down. This apartment has so many roaches in it and in the winter you will see plenty of mice, they get so bad that they start dying in the wall. I hate it here. |

| Recent Review: | | Great subsidized housing apartments for Northwestern Hospital-affiliated students/residents/nurses/faculty/staff.Large apartments, very reasonable cost for such a prime area as Streeterville.Building and fixtures are old, will not wow your friends with modern appearance.Elevators are horribly slow, not as big a deal for me as I live on a low floor. |

| Recent Review: | | The absolute worst thing about this building is the landlord. She skims the line between legal and illegal, and you get the feeling she knows it. Very unpleasant to deal with, very much in it for the profit, and annoyingly whines when something needs done, especially if it costs her. Forever bringing up her costs. I just read an ad of hers online, and peed my pants laughing. But more on her later.SAFTEY-The residents in the building (the ones that are left...) are fine. The neighborhood ain't what it used to be. It's in between two bad spots. I've seen drug deals on the corner, and lots of shady characters can be seen. No one is sure, but there appears to be a halfway house for juveniles next door.UPKEEP-Let's be honest. These are only average apartments. The Owner describes them as very european, classy, and elegant. Not really. Lots of hidden problems. The building was just re-plumbed, and boy, did we hear how much it was going to cost her. I have a vintage toilet in the apartment. This was actually a selling point of hers. I could care less. I would rather have a toilet that works. Owner rarely fixes the problem, but will tend to patch up the problem to save herself money, but it only makes things worse.NOISE-Again, neighbors in the building are fine. The Neighborhood can get kind of loud. Especially in the summers.TRANSPORTATION-You are close to the L, but it's a 40 min. ride to get downtown. The area around the stop is very shady especially at night. The Jarvis stop is one of the worst on the red line. Have a car? Prepare to get it dinged, scratched and dented. The Parking situation is terrible. The landlord will disagree. (And here's a great example of how she is.) She will show you the place in the daytime when no one is home, and excalim |

| Recent Review: | | I love my apartment. It is sunny, clean, large, has hardwood floors, amazing cabinet and shelving space and is filled with vintage charm (fixtures from the '30's, antique tiling, built in bookshelves...)The community of nieghbors are friendly and just about everyone has pets- cats and especially dogs. There's also storage available and street parking is easy. There is a janitor in the building, but getting him to fix anything or report problems is worse than pulling teeth. For this, we report any problems directly to management rather than to him. We have had a non-functional closet light for a year now, and the lock in the building's entranceway seems will never be repaired. Front gates are frequently neglected and left propped wide open by tenants. This should be remedied for saftey's sake alone. As for safety, there's been two break- ins (both this year)over the past ten years, and while my boyfriend and I had the unfourtunate experiece of one nieghbor who was a convicted (and continuing) meth/ cocaine dealer, he WAS evicted by management after a couple of months (and several threats).I'd like to see tougher credit checks of applicants for this reason--- to keep (us) tenants safe. But again, don't get me wrong, I love my apartment! Seconds to the El train, only minutes from the city, the beach, great shopping, restaurants and parks...The nieghborhood is queit, comfortable, affordable and full of charm. It's a great value and we've already renewed our lease for the next year (until 2005. |
