11. Lenox Park Apartments
1400 East West Hwy
Silver Spring  MD, 20910

Recent Review:I've lived here for a year. It's more expensive than most buildings in the neighborhood, but if you can afford it, it's worth it. The pool and spa are nice. The exercise room is way better than other buildings in the area. The lobby is clean and pretty, and you can get to a convenience store, a Subway, and a dry cleaners without leaving the building. You are super close to the Metro. Maintenance has responded very quickly to my calls. Last summer we had a couple roaches in the kitchen, and I was very unhappy, because I felt like I was paying too much to have roaches. But mgmt responded promptly and exterminated like crazy, and there haven't been any since. The apartments are quiet too -- in the hallways you can hear some neighbor noise and smell some cooking, but once inside my apartment, it's really quiet. One thing -- maybe it's better up higher, but on the lower (cheaper) floors, the balconies aren't really pleasant because the streets and train tracks are so busy. But basically I have no complaints about this place at all. Very pleased with it, and although it costs a lot, it's not even the most expensive place in the neighborhood!

Recent Review:Peppertree Farm is a very large ethnically diverse apartment complex. Most of my neighbors are wonderful. The office staff has been completely replaced within the last year, as the prior staff were incompetent. My main greivance surrounds safety.Cars are regularly broken into as well as apartments.Drugs are sold in the open.I have voiced these concerns to the rental office and am ignored.I have also voiced these concerns to the local police which are regularly patrolling the area. The police simply agree and express their opinion that the neighorhood is a bad neighborhood. So, before moving here be warned.PS - maintenance is extremely poor.Do it yourself or move. For any maintenance problems, write to Ken Grady himself the owner in Silevr Spring.

Recent Review:You can hear all the sounds of the city. The freight train that runs by about 30 feet from here sounds like it is barreling through your apartment. They are not required to tell you about the noise and they won't!

The door to the parking garage has broken down for 3 times (each time for 2 weeks or more) in the year I have lived here.Their maintenance is horribly. The smoke detectors are so sensitive that they constantly turn on.

20. The Chateau
9737 Mt Pisgah Rd
Silver Spring  MD, 20903
31.7
Recent Review:Just when 'The Chateau' appears to be getting on the right track it will go and shoot itself in the foot...again. Over the past year this complex has had severe problems with roaches and just when they get it sorted they let their security lapse. Residents used to need a keycard to enter whereas now the door is open 24/7. While this may be convenient when you struggle home with bags of groceries it certainly encourages criminals to wander in and see what they can take. In the previous month alone I've had to report two incidents regarding suspicious males going door to door and testing if residents doors are open. Besides that the security guard of an evening spends far more time sitting in his buggy laughing and joking on his cellphone than actually keeping an eye on cars and the premises.'The Chateau', although nicely kept, must spend a fortune on keeping the grounds pleasant. While that's good to look at I would rather they spent their money on appliances that work properly (been here 4 years and still have a dishwasher that doesn't work and a fridge that leaks which they claim can't be fixed).Free video rental is advertised as a feature but only one person has access to lending them out which is hardly convenient. If they're kept behind the reception I don't see why any person there can't lend them out. Besides that videos are changed every three months or so and there's only a list of about 20 most of which you will never have heard of and the ones that are famous are long out of date. There is an outdoor swimming pool that is only opened in summer and then it's poorly handled with youths for lifeguards who aremore interested in talking on cell phones and letting their friends in free than actually doing any work. Besides that if you're a female you can expect numbers of men perving with binoculars if you venture out in anything remotely revealing.Currently there is a dead cat less than 100ft from the main entrance laying on the grass. I have reported this on three seperate occassions over a two month period and as of today (03/15/05) it still lays there in full view of young children and whoever else walks past it. Not exactly sanitary conditions. What else? Well, groups of guys will converge around the reception every evening to chat up the girl on duty so don't be surprised to hear a lot of sexual innuendo being spoken when you walk past with your child. Not surprising as the employee in question is already responsible for the sleeping with a tennant and causing his marriage to break-up.Yes, never a dull moment here at 'The Chateau' and as soon as a house I like becomes available I'll be on out of here.To sum up....it's poorly managed (don't be surprised to see the manager in a drunken state) with unprofessional members of staff and is vastly overpriced considering the poor standard of the apartments and the appliances in them.
