| Recent Review: | | Stephen Eaton is primarily geared toward renters who are elderly or disabled. There is an income limit, and rent prices are based upon household income. There are plenty of things to dislike about Stephen Eaton, but folks who are elderly or disabled generally don't have many choices when it comes to affordable housing -- especially here in southern Maine.PROS: Nice location... within walking distance of schools, supermarket, convenience stores, restaurants, medical facilities, and the beach. Within 5-minute driving distance of I-95, train station, shopping center, movie theater, etc. Relatively quiet neighborhood. Most tenants are over 50 and are quiet. Tenant is allowed to have a cat or a small dog (security deposit required). Rent is relatively affordable. Apartments are relatively energy efficient.CONS: Maintenance issues sometimes take a while to be resolved. Driveway/parking lot is in horrible condition and is full of pot holes. Not enough parking spaces, especially during snow season. Onsite laundry machines break down often. Grounds maintenance/upkeep is minimal. Most apartments have not received new interior paint in well over 10 years, despite tenants moving in and out. Most apartments still have the original carpeting from 1981, which is extremely worn. Some of the windows are in need of repair or replacement. Some apartments still have the original 1981 refrigerator, which is not energy efficient and requires manual defrosting. The entire complex has a serious ant problem which is particularly bad during the spring and summer. The sewer system becomes "backed up" a few times a year. No centralized fire alarm system. |
