| Recent Review: | | THE GOOD: I was immediately drawn to the crown moldings and new appliances in the rehabbed apartments. I also loved that I could afford a 2BR on my own. The neighborhood has always felt very safe, and there is a lot of parking for guests. There is a new laundry and fitness center, both of which are nice and 24-hour with a swipe card. The community is very pretty with established trees and big courtyards. Maintenance usually responds quickly. They accept pets. Low security deposit. There is a LOT of closet space, which is good because (a) closet is your storm shelter; and (b) there is no other storage facility in the complex. Groceries are just a couple blocks away, and there is a bank and convenience store just down the street.THE SO-SO: The price for laundry went from $1 to $1.25 per load (wash AND dry), which means I have to do math when I do laundry, thereby combining two of my least favorite activities. The tub is metal and the spray on-finish cracks and can look dirty quickly. The neighbors generally keep to themselves and the pool is usually occupied by kids, who often do cannonballs. The doors are also metal, which is weird, but it's easy to leave notes for yourself because magnets stick. It's kind of loud in some apartments because I-170 runs immediately behind the complex. Maintenance sometimes leaves a mess. It would be a bit cozy for two people, unless the people were romantically-involved -- in the 2BR, the second bedroom is SIGNIFICANTLY smaller. Your rent price will increase marginally each year. It mattered little at first, but after living here three years, I don't feel the apartment is worth an extra $45/month.THE BAD: Because the windows don't seem to fit in the frames well, the apartment is NOT energy effecient. My heating and cooling expenses can get close to or sometimes exceed $100/mo for my 780sf 2BR during peak winter/summer months. Also, the lack of seal means that yellowjackets, wasps or something of the sort nest in the windows. This means you cannot open them and get a cross-breeze when the weather is nice in the spring/fall. Some windows won't stay open unless propped. I had a hideously ineffective air conditioner that would stop working (freeze up, etc.) every 24-48 hours. This happened for two full summers before they finally replaced the unit. I have also had problems with my heating. It usually picks the coldest day to stop working, too.OVERALL: on a scale of 1-5 (5 being highest), I give it a 3. The inconveniences were HUGE, but the rest of the apartment is comfortable, attractive and safe, which are good. I'd consider living here again for the price. |
