1. Baker Downs Apartments

Recent Review:This letter is to inform you of our concern regarding the professionalism of the manner in which this complex is handling certain matters. As I am sure you are aware of, we moved into this complex on November 15, 2003, and have been more than ideal residents to this complex.Although, our nearly two year experience with Baker Downs has been less thenideal.Starting shortly after the first month, we reported a gaping hole in the center of our carpet, which was a result of the apartment staffs cleaning negligence.Although this was a serious concern of ours, for numerous reasons, we were completely blown off by the office personnel. In fact it was approximately 6 months before anything was ever done about our carpet. When the office finally got around tofixingthe carpet that we had been extremely distraught about for several months, thehandy manused short cuts, and sloppy techniques to temporally fix the issue. But, in turn, created more problems, by leaving nails sticking up out of the tile, for us to repeatedly cut our feet on.Rather than experience the headache of dealing with the office staffs lack of concern, we hammered the nails down ourselves. In addition, upon moving into ournewapartment, our dishwasher was not in working condition. These two factors alone, would be reason enough for us to view this apartment (2012) asunfitto lease out.At least lacking thebestqualities that Baker Downs falsely advertises. Also, our electric bill immediately became a concern of ours, and has continued to concern us over the past couple of years. The lack of properly maintained facilities, along with improper sealing of doors and windows, our electric bill continued to rise. When addressing our concern to the office about the cold air rushing out of the cracks and obvious gaps in the door and windows, we were told to contact the electric company, who in turn told us to turn off our air conditioning. But this spike in our electric bill was not a money issue, but rather one of the apartment's defaults in structure. You could hold your hand in front of or around the windows and door, and feel the air rushing out of the apartment. There was no reason why our electric bill for an apartment that was 500 square feet was nearly twice as much as the electric bill for my parents 1800 square feet. The mere fact of the matter was that the apartment was not insulated to the so calledbeststandards. After numerous calls to the office addressing our concern about the leaking of air and the lack of sealant around the windows and door, nothing was ever done. Finally, after a bee flew in our apartment under the large gap at the bottom of the door, ahandy mancame andtemporarilyfixed the issue, by hammering a large piece of tin to the bottom of our door.To continue ourongoing, still unresolved, issue with our air conditioning unit, if you could call it that, we reported the lack of cooling of our unit on Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 7:30pm, to theafter hours answering service, which ironically was out of order, resulting in me leaving a message on ananswering machine.Much to our surprise, we heard NOTHING from the office staff.Due to the intense Texas heat, we were forced out of our apartment, and stayed at a hotel. The following morning, at 8:30am, we called the office, again, and they said that they would write up a work order, as if this was the first they had heard of it.After going by the apartment at 11:30, and nothing had been done, we followed up with the office at 3:00pm.A rude, unreasonable member of the Baker Downs office staff greeted us.We were told that the maintenance men had the work order, and that they would get to it when they could. After getting extremely distraught, and realizing that I was getting no where with this individual, I called back at 3:30pm to speak to a manager, whom to my surprise could not come to the phone.I wasallowedto speak to the assistant manager, of whom told us that the person I had spoken to earlier would not have know if the maintenance men had fixed our ac problem. After she spoke to the maintenance person, she told me that the problem had been fixed.Upon our arrival home, we noticed that our air conditioner was turned down to 65 degrees, and was steadily attempting to cool the apartment. But it was still over 90 degrees in our apartment! We then proceeded to phone the office again, and were once again greeted by the unprofessional staff that we had become accustomed to.The assistant manager proceeded to tell me that she would attempt to contact the maintenance man, whom had already left for the day.Once again, upon waiting, and feeling the concern of being able to pay for a hotel yet another night, we spoke again to the assistant manager. She expressed little or no concern for our feelings.I asked her where we would be able to stay if the air was not fixed. She then told me that the complex would not pay to have us stay in a hotel, and could not relocate us to another apartment until the problem was resolved. She proceeded to tell me that she had gone three days without air conditioning in her unit and that it didnt matter who you were in this complex, things would get fixed when they got around to it.Eventually themaintenanceman arrived around 6:15pm, for the second time that day. With a lit cigar hanging out of his mouth, he entered our apartment, and proceeded to tell me that our ac unit was over 23 years old, and that we needed a whole new unit.He said that he would possibly be able to get to it by Friday, June 17, 2005.He said that he had two others to replace first. There have been numerous other things that have occurred over the past couple of years that concern us as well.Although these concerns may seem minuet to those of the staff, they are serious concerns to the residents. We all pay extremely high amounts every month forthe best.According to our experience from day one, it seems as if the residents concerns are of little or no importance to the office.

Recent Review:These apartments are terrible.I have cabinet doors that are missing or falling off and it is impossible to get anything repaired without sending threatening letters. They are cheap apartments, but you get what you pay for.STAY AWAY!
